"Then we can still see each other. This doesn't have to be contingent on work," he replied.

[atlas_wont_shrug]

"But I don't want that. I don't want us to not work together. I know I protest doing police work, but I value our partnership," Atlas insisted.

"Then make that clear when you tell her," he said, reaching up to stroke Atlas's cheek.

[atlas_wont_shrug]

"Okay, I believe I can do that," Atlas replied, appearing to think and then moving closer, slipping an arm around the other man.

John gladly held him in return, pressing a kiss to his lips.

"How do you feel?" John asked then.

[atlas_wont_shrug]

"Happy," Atlas replied easily. "I feel good here with you. Safe, cared for, important. I like those things. ...How do you feel, John?"

[smith_john]

"I haven't felt so alive in a very long time. Happy doesnt seem like a big enough word," he replied.

[atlas_wont_shrug]

"I'm glad," Atlas beamed. "All I've wanted to do since we met is help you- And not just because it's what my program demands. Pleasing you brings me joy, John."

"Really?" he asked with a quizzical smile. "I want to find out all the things that bring you joy. I want to make your life better. Not that it's bad. Just...better.'

[atlas_wont_shrug]

"That's very kind and thoughtful," Atlas smiled. "Thank you."

[smith_john]

"I think we could both use some sleep," John suggested gently. "We can talk about this more after you see Easther tomorrow, hmm?"

[atlas_wont_shrug]

Atlas nodded, falling silent and squirming closer.

"Good night, John."

[smith_john]

"Good night," he replied, then closed his eyes and let sleep take him, content with the weight of the other man against him.
